William R. "Bill" Roth

William R. "Bill" Roth… age 78, retired Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army
NASHUA, NH – LTC William R. "Bill" Roth, USA RET, died on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the V.A. Medical Center in Manchester, NH. Bill made his home in Nashua, NH with his loving wife Margaret J. "Peggy" (Pilat) Roth. He was 78.
Born in East Patterson, NJ on June 3, 1933, he was a son of the late Adam L. and Marie (Gross) Roth.
Bill was a graduate of the University of Missouri, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and the University of Southern California, where he received a Masters Degree in International Studies.
He joined the United States Army in 1956 and served until his retirement in 1976 with a final rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During a highly decorated career, he served with and commanded the 5th Battalion, 22nd Artillery during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star for bravery and the Purple Heart for wounds received while fighting. Following the war he served as a liaison for the American Army to the German Government in various localities in Germany.
Following his military service, Bill worked as the head of international public relations for the Bertelsmann Corporation of Stuttgart, Germany until his retirement.
Bill was a member of the Hancock Lodge, #311, AF & AM of Leavenworth, Kansas and received the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
He lived his life by the motto of duty, honor, and country in all that he did. He extended a helping hand to people of all cultures making them feel welcomed and at home.
In addition to his wife he leaves a daughter, Dr. Alexandra V. Roth of Winthrop, MA; a brother, Charles (Buddy) Roth and his wife Analie of Johnson City, TN; a sister-in-law, Nancy Roth of Palos Verdes, CA; an aunt, Muriel Roth of Canfield, OH; his former wife, Susanne (Neubert) Roth of Stuttgart, Germany; dear friends, Family Paul Eckert of Germany and Family Evginy Mishen of New Mexico. He was predeceased by his brother Adam L. Roth and his sister Beatrice Roth.
Bill also leaves many friends at the V.A. Medical Community Living Center in Manchester, NH where he has been lovingly taken care of for the last 6 years.
