DRACUT - William E. McDowell, 72, a resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017 at a local hospice facility. He leaves his beloved wife Theresa P. McDowell, to whom he was married for 50 years.
Born in Ayer, MA on September 23, 1944, he was a son of the late David W. and Frances (Barnes) McDowell.
Bill served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.
Mr. McDowell attended the University of Boston and received his license to teach mechanics. He worked for Lowell Lincoln Mercury as well as various local Ford dealerships. He also worked for Dracut Sewer Service, the Exxon Corporation for 20 years and Old Dominion in Dracut, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Dracut Roadrunner's Car Club, the Centralville Sportsman's Club, the National Rifle Association and was an aficionado of antique cars.
Bill is survived by a son; James McDowell and his wife Chris of Hudson, NH; two grandchildren, Lauren and Liam McDowell of Hudson, NH; his siblings, David McDowell and his wife Betty of Kingsford, MI, Henry "Red" McDowell of Westford, Helen Goodwin of Groton, James McDowell and his wife Carolyn of Jupiter, FL, Ann and Don Parkinson of Leesburg, FL, and Charles Gardner and his wife Susan of Salem, NH; his best friends, his brother Red McDowell and Bob and Jean of New England Dragway. He is also survived by several Godchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
