Lowell--William E. Harrington, a life-long resident of Christian Hill, died Monday at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of Helen (Johnston) Harrington, with whom he recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on February 24, 1920, he was a graduate of Lowell High School and a veteran of World War II. He later worked at Synthetic Yarns in Lowell and for the U.S. Post Office.
He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and a member of the parish's Legion of Mary.
A lover of sports, he was an avid golfer, a die-hard Red Sox fan, and a keen fan of college basketball.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Michael Harrington and Joyce Harrington of Lowell, William Brian Harrington and Judith Harrington of Hampton, N.H., and Donna Harrington-Lueker and William Lueker of Bristol, R.I. His grandchildren include Christine Harrington, Kimberly Harrington, Marina Harrington, Meredith Calderon and Tiffany Diberardino. He has four great-grandchildren.
