LOWELL - William R. "Bill" Green, 88, a lifelong resident of Lowell, residing on Christian Hill in the Centralville section, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Dean) Green with whom he would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on October 20, 2018.
Born in Lowell on September 11, 1930, Bill was the eldest child of William F. and Mary (Mireault) Green.
He attended Lowell schools and Wentworth Institute and was employed by MIT Lincoln Laboratory for 42 years. He also served for 10 years in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Bill was a communicant of St. Michael Parish, Lowell, where he greatly impacted many lives through his efforts as an usher, with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and most importantly with the youth in the CYO. Thirty five years ago, Bill established an annual golf tournament that has distributed 284 college scholarships for deserving high school
seniors.
For the last 22 years, Bill has played in the C.L.G.A. Golf League, whose members include many former CYO members that Bill had mentored in their youth.
In addition to his wife Dolores, Bill leaves a daughter, Suellen Green and her husband Gerardo Perez Giusti of Cape Neddick, ME; a sister, Ethel (Green) Hauze of Chelmsford; sisters in law, Barbara Green of Nashua, NH, Donna Brennan and her husband Daniel of Lowell; a brother in law, Edward Dean and Jean Dean of Lowell; and also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brothers Arthur, Gerald, Robert and sister Sheila (Green) Smith, also his sister in law, Nancy (Dean) MacDougall and her husband Jack.
GREEN - Relatives and friends are invited to Bill's Life Celebration on Tuesday, October 9, from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, October 10, at 11 AM in St. Michael Church. At the family's request, all are encouraged to meet at church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
