William H. Gardner, Jr. of Lowell, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 27th at Palm Manor with his beloved sister Carole Clancy by his side. Born in Dracut on December 11, 1937, Billy was the son of the late William and Alyce (Conley) Gardner. As a youngster the family moved to Lowell where he attended Lowell schools.
Billy worked for many years with various paving companies such as Edward Walsh of Lowell and Gaudet's of Dracut, retiring due to illness. Billy loved the outdoors and savored his weekend retreats in his cabin in New Hampshire where he enjoyed hunting and hiking for many years, until his illness forced him to give it up.
He also served as a Sergeant with the Army National Guard for 9 years.
Billy was a devoted son and would be seen frequently driving his parents on a leisurely Sunday afternoon or enjoying the country side scene throughout the New England are. Billy's love for family was evident in his never missed holidays surrounded by grandnieces and grandnephews.
Billy was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle and friend. His sister, Carole Clancy was a devoted care taker to help ensure his quality of life during his illness which he handled with great dignity and never a complaint.
The family would like to thank the staff on A Wing at the Palm Center in Chelmsford for their wonderful, loving care they gave to our brother, Bill. God Bless them all.
He is survived by his additional sibling, A. Claire Mousley, of Lowell, wife of the late Robert C. Mousley; three nieces, Carole McGuane and her husband John of Dracut, Deborah Mousley of Newburyport and Karen Laganas and her husband Nicholas of Dracut. He also leaves many grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins among whom are Doris Garside and her husband John and Patricia Freitas and her husband Gerald, all of New Hampshire.
