William H. "Bill" Donovan, 85, a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and husband of the late Adele J. (Szmytd) Donovan who died in 2006, died Friday following a brief illness.
Born in Lowell on August 20, 1927, he was a son of the late William H and Helen (Breen) Donovan and received his education in St. Michael's School and Keith Acadamy.
During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Donovan served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Corporal. For many years he was employed with the Courier Citizen Printing Company as an Estimator. He was an avid sports fan of all the Boston sports teams and enjoyed walks along the Merrimack River with his friend the late Jim Sharkey. Mr. Donovan was a longtime resident of the Centraville section of the City and a Communicant of St. Michael Church.
He is survived by his son, Joseph W. Donovan and his wife Christine A. (Hancock) Donovan of Tyngsboro and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Mr. Donovan was the brother of the late June Brassil.
