William J. Barrett, a resident of Dracut, died on Monday, November 23, 2015 at a local nursing home following a period of declining health. He was 91.
Born in Lowell on March 16, 1924, Bill was a son of the late Francis P. and Rose B. (Stewart) Barrett.
Bill was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army. While enlisted he served with the Military Police.
In his earlier years he was employed by several mills, but retired from the Raytheon Corp. as a laborer.
Bill delighted in singing. He sang at the senior center in North Chelmsford. Bill performed in several shows, including their adaptation of The Sound of Music. He also sang in the St. Michael Parish Choir and for the patients at D'Youville Senior Care when he participated in the day program there.
Bill was a horse and dog racing fan. He enjoyed visiting the racetracks in the area.
Bill was also a boxing fan. In his younger years he was training to participate in the Golden Gloves when an eye injury forced him to stop.
Survivors include his sister, Rosemarie Boutilier of Dracut; and several nieces ands nephews. He was the brother of the late Bernadette Sweeney, Francis Barrett, Robert Barrett, and Raymond Barrett.
