Wilda G. (Gagnon) Gagne, 89, a former resident of Dracut and communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, died Tuesday evening, January 28, 2014 at a local healthcare facility with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerard R. Gagne who died September 24, 1988 and to whom she was married in 1946.
Born in Nashua, NH on June 25, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Stanislas and Eva (Berube) Gagnon.
Mrs. Gagne grew up in the Crown Hill neighborhood of Nashua which saw a devastating fire that destroyed a large part of the neighborhood and displaced many families.
While in high school she was employed at the Woolworth's Department Store in Nashua, NH.
Following her marriage she was a homemaker for many years and later worked as a stitcher for the Robert Leonard Company, Dracut Sportswear and other various local mills. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
During World War II she was employed by a local machine shop working on military equipment for the war effort.
Mrs. Gagne will be remembered as a warm and friendly person who loved everyone as they loved her.
She had many interests including cooking, puzzles, games (especially scrabble), bingo and cribbage.
She is survived by a son, Arthur G. Gagne and his wife Susan J. (Ruest) of Dracut; two daughters, Linda S. Desrosiers and Patricia A. Maleski and her husband John F., all of Chelmsford; three brothers and a sister, Richard, Edward and Raymond Gagnon, Dorothy Losik and her husband Chester, all of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Deann Olin and her husband Manuel, Dean Desrosiers, Dana Desrosiers and his wife Jennifer, Jason Maleski and his wife Corinne and Stacey Gagne; nine great grandchildren, Justin, Mackenzie and Sydney Olin, Aidan, Riley and Teagan Desrosiers, Landon, Braydon and Verity Maleski; also several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Normand J. Desrosiers and sister of the late Wilfred, John and Normand Gagnon, Cecile Beaucher, Mildred Turcotte and Sylvianne Beaucher.
Wilda's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care and compassion that she was given by the staff at Northwood Health Care- C Wing, Hospice Services of Massachusetts, All Care Day program in North Chelmsford and Chelmsford Supportive Day Program at the Chelmsford Council on Aging.
