Lowell – Wilba Simmons … 76, enjoyed spending time with family
LOWELL - Wilba Simmons, 76, a resident of Lowell, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at a local health care facility.
Born in Birmingham, AL, on July 3, 1934, he was a son of the late Larry Frank Simmons, Sr. and Mittie (Moore) Simmons.
While residing in Alabama, he was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. More recently, he was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Lynn.
Wilba loved the outdoors and gardening, and he was known for his beautiful rose garden.
He enjoyed dancing and singing, especially Aretha Franklin and the music of her father, Rev. Franklin.
An excellent cook, Wilba enjoyed entertaining and socializing with family and friends of all ages.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Fairhaven Nursing Home and previously had been employed by the Lowell General Hospital.
He is survived by a son, Wilba Simmons, Jr.; three sisters, Louise Jones of Saganaw, MI, Novella Jones of Long Island, NY and his twin sister, Wilda Chapman and her husband Eldon of Lowell; also several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews, among whom is a special niece, Vanessa Burton of Dracut. He was a brother of the late Carrie Lee Woods, Mary Lee Ponds, Lula B. Farris, Frank Simmons, Jr., Jettie Simmons, Harvey Simmons, Andrew J. Simmons and Rufus Simmons.
