Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather

Wendell G. Iby, 92, a longtime resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with his loving family in his presence. He was the beloved husband of Yvette R. (Thibault) Iby, with whom he would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on June 6, 2024.

Born in Essex Junction Vermont on September 14, 1931, he was a son of the late Guy H. and Irene V. (Lepan) Iby.

Wendell served with the United States Army during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Prior to his retirement, Wendell was employed by Honeywell Information Systems as a manager of the electronic recycling department.

Wendell touched many peoples lives through the many organizations he volunteered or assisted with and was greatly loved by his family, friends and acquaintances. He was a very upbeat person, always ready with a firm handshake and a smile and was truly grateful for all of the gifts that life gave him.

A Catholic devoted to his faith, he was involved for many years at St. Michael Church with the CCD program, the CYO variety show and as a eucharistic minister among others. More recently he was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut, sharing his talents with them as well.

Wendell was committed to good health and living and was a daily visitor to the Greater Lowell YMCA. He served the Y in many capacities and received the George Giannis Service Award.

He enjoyed spending time at his condo at Hampton Beach, NH with Yvette and their family for the last 17 years. His greatest love was his family, he and Yvette enjoyed going to all the special events that their children, grandchildren or great grandchildren were involved in.

In addition to his wife Yvette, he leaves four children and their spouses, David Iby and his wife Marsha, Rich Iby and his wife Nancy Beecy, Lynda Dionne and her husband Michael and Michael Iby; seven grandchildren, David Iby and his wife Trish, Alex Iby and his significant other Rebecca Niland, Brooke Lepke and her husband Erik, Paige Mahoney and her husband Tommy, Hannah Dionne, Chris Iby and his wife Cara, Amanda Iby and her fiancé Dave Quinn; ten great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Iby; also several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Richard H. Iby, who died from wounds suffered in battle during World War II, and Robert C. Iby.

Relatives and friends are invited to Wendell’s Life Celebration on Friday from 4 until 7 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 AM in St. Francis Church, Dracut. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Greater Lowell YMCA, 35 YMCA Drive, Lowell, MA 01852.
