Walter T. Bennett, 71, a resident of Holiday, FL, died Friday morning, June 22, 2012 at his daughter's home in Dracut with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Margaret A. Peg" (MacDonald) Bennett.
Born in Somerville on December 9, 1940, he was a son of the late Roy and Leah (Butt) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett received his education in the Somerville School System and attended Merrimack College. He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War era.
Prior to his retirement he was employed as the head custodian at the McAuliffe School in Lowell. He was a member of the Custodial Union in Lowell and the TAT Civic Association in FL.
Those who knew him say he was the nicest person you could ever know and his family always came first, like time spent laughing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening at his camp in Fitzwilliam, NH and was also the Bocce Champion there. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He was a self taught and creative craftsman who could fix anything, lamps being his specialty.
In addition to his wife he leaves two daughters, Meg Howard and her husband Chris of Monrovia, CA and Kerry Bennett and her fiancé Patrick Beauchamp of Dracut; a brother, Herb Bennett and his wife Theresa of Medford; four sisters, Mill Ortolani and her husband John and Nina Stimpson, all of Billerica, Barbara Deveraux and her husband Arthur of Burlington and Dot Bertrand and her husband Al of Cape Cod; two grandchildren, Margeaux Beauchamp of Dracut and Jonathan Gonzales of Monrovia, CA; also many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Bill and John Bennett and Maud Gilgunn.
