Thomas R. Welch

DRACUT - Thomas R. Welch, 83, a Dracut resident, passed away on Sunday evening, March 19, 2017 at the Lowell General Hospital following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Nita (Scadova) Welch to whom he was married for 48 years.
Born in Lowell on November 16, 1933, he was a son of the late James J. and Sarah (Flaherty) Welch.
Tom was a graduate of St. Michael Parochial School and Lowell High School. He also took a course in refrigeration and earned his real estate license. Following high school,Tom enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. serving during the Korean War.
Tom was the owner/operator of T.W.'s Pub in Dracut for 29 years. He was employed as an Industrial Instructor III at the Comm. of MA Northeastern Correctional Center in Concord, MA. He was a member of the Officers Federal Union. Tom also worked as the disciplinarian at Dracut High School and at Standard Steel and Construction where he was a member of Union 479.
Tom loved to swim, he went into his pool at his home in Dracut every day in the summer. He enjoyed going to both Patriot's and Red Sox games, and also liked to watched them on T.V. He made many trips to Rockingham Park in Salem, NH to play the ponies.
He especially loved to attend all of his great granddaughter Nadia's softball games and enjoyed watching her pitch.
He travelled extensively with his wife Nita, taking pleasure in trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where they visited 10 times, Hawaii, 6 times, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Las Vegas, the Kentucky Derby, the Berkshire's, Smuggler's Notch, VT, Newport, RI, Montreal and Nova Scotia, Acapulco, Mexico, Tampa, Ft. Meyers, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and Clearwater Beach, FL.
He was a former member of the Planning Board in Dracut and was a member of the East End Club in Lowell. He attended both St. Francis Church in Dracut and St. Michael Church in Lowell.
In addition to his wife Nita he leaves a daughter, Carolyn Caffrey and her husband William C. of No. Andover; three grandchildren, Tim Saari and his wife Sue (Richardson) of Dracut, Kristina Caffrey of Dracut and William F. Caffrey of No. Andover; two great grandchildren, Nadia Saari and Tim Saari, Jr. (TJ), both of Dracut; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Locke of Lowell, Francis Scadova of Swanzey, NH, Donald and Sonia Scadova of Swanzey, NH, Jerry and Marcia Scadova of Keene, NH, Mert Scadova of Lutz, FL, Betty Scadova of Nashua, NH, Mona Pettit of Canton; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. He was a brother of the late James Welch and his wife Martha (Chickie), Raymond Welch, Edmond Welch, Marion Rowe and her husband Raymond and Margaret Locke; brother-in-law of the late, Norman and Frances Scadova, John and Eleanor Scadova, Geraldine Scadova, Isabelle and Stanley Renock, Gloria and Richard Curtis, Bea Scadova and Alan Pettit.
