Thomas F. Szafran

DRACUT - Thomas F. Szafran, age 68, a longtime resident of Dracut, died Thursday, January 7th after a long courageous battle with illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary-Jon "Cissy" (McManus) Szafran, to whom he has been married for 48 years.

He was born in Lowell on May 2, 1952, and was a son of the late Alphonse "Red" and Mary (Janesko) Szafran. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1970.

Prior to his retirement, Tom was employed for many years as a warehouse supervisor for D.S. Graphics in Lowell. Earlier in his career he was employed for many years by Baxter Medical Supplies in Bedford.

In his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and vacationing at Hampton Beach with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his three sons, Michael Szafran and his wife Allison of Conestoga, PA, Steve Szafran and his girlfriend Arielle Black of Dracut, and Kevin Szafran of Lowell; five grandchildren, Katie, Lily, Aidan, Brian, and Will; a brother-in-law, Tom McManus and his wife Jan of Londonderry, NH; a sister-in-law, Rena Demers and her husband Moe of Dracut; two nieces, Kelly Johnson and her husband Adam of Auburn and Shannon Tilton of Tewksbury; and two nephews, Peter Demers and Patrick Demers, both of Dracut.

He was also the brother of the late Mark Szafran.

It being his wish, services will be private. Burial in Oakland Cemetery in Dracut. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the 50Legs Foundation, 100 South Belcher, PO Box 8245, Clearwater, FL 33758.
