Thomas M. Barrett, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday August 31, 2014 at his Belvidere residence with his family by his side. He was 66.
He was born in Lowell on January 11, 1948, a son of the late John H. and Marion (Nerney) Barrett.
Tom was the youngest of six children who was fascinated by aircraft. His hobby was constructing model planes, and Tom would volunteer to pick up relatives and friends from the airport to be able to have some time to watch landings and departures. Tom was also fond of history and enjoyed reading historical literature.
His family describes Tom as a quiet man who was generous with a wry sense of humor. He was very protective of his family especially his older sister. She describes Tom as a wonderful brother.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Barrett of Lowell, with whom Tom resided, Alice McKinley of Los Angeles, CA; nieces and nephew, Ann Ouellette, David Ouellette; Helen (Pare') Dempsey, Martha (Pare') Wyman, and several grand nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jane Pare', Catherine Ouellette, and John David Barrett.
