Dracut

Theresa G. (Hylan) Carignan, age 95, a long-time resident of Dracut, died Tuesday, May 6, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles L. “Chuck” Carignan, with whom she shared 75 years of marriage with until his passing in 2024.

She was born in Lowell on October 14, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Brennan) Hylan. She was raised and educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Medical Assistant for Saint John’s Hospital and for many years employed by the Town of Dracut in the treasurer’s office.

Theresa was an active and long-time parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion for Saint Mary Magdalen Church and Lowell General Hospital. She was a devoted Catholic and found an immense joy in helping all those that she could. Her volunteer efforts ranged from working in the Lowell General Hospital gift shop to the Cancer Walk and with the grandparent reader program for Head Start.

She enjoyed the beach, both in Wells, ME and Clearwater, FL and was an avid Patriots fan, watching every game and enjoying the Tom Brady era. Theresa was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially with her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren at many family gatherings.

Theresa is survived by her nine children, Richard Carignan of Rye, NH, Marianne Berube and her husband, Thomas of Dracut, Dianne Norkiewicz and her husband, David of Dracut, Kevin Carignan and his wife, Elizabeth of Dracut, Kathleen MacNeil of Northbridge, Christine Cyr and her husband, Jeffrey of Pelham, NH, Denise Stassis and her husband, John of Thornton, NH, David Carignan of Dracut and Timothy Carignan and his wife, Kim of Hudson, NH; her son-in-law, Donald McKinnon; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; as well as several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Charles Carignan, Jr. and Donna McKinnon, grandmother of the late Shaun Carignan, mother-in-law of the late Frederick MacNeil and sister of the late Dorothy O’Keefe, Rita Pendergast, Mary Hylan, Joseph Hylan, Jr., Royal Hylan and Thomas Hylan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Theresa’s Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10 AM in SAINT MARY MAGDALEN CHURCH, 95 Lakeview Avenue, Tyngsboro. Burial to follow in Richardson Cemetery, Dracut. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Theresa’s memory to Saint Mary Magdalen Church/Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 95 Lakeview Avenue, Tyngsboro, MA 01879.
