Theodore J. Cullen

February 23, 1938 — February 1, 2022

LOWELL - Born in Lowell, raised on Christian Hill, Theodore J. Cullen, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on February 1st, 2022. Born on February 23, 1938, Teddy was raised by his immigrant grandparents on Fox Street in the Christian Hill neighborhood of Lowell. He is predeceased by his former wife, Marjorie (Cook) Cutter and their son Terrence Cullen.
A die-hard Red Sox fan, Teddy loved to tell tales. At any family gathering, he would be surrounded by a crowd eager to hear him tell stories, debate issues, talk about his faith or predict how the Sox would do next season. A daily communicant for most of his adult life, Teddy was a familiar face at daily mass at St. Joseph's Shrine and along the walking routes around Christian Hill in Lowell with his rosary beads in his hand. He attended Lowell Public Schools and graduated from Lowell High School. Upon graduation, he served two years in United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1959. He devoured books, was an avid gardener and enjoyed working outside in all seasons. While he spent most of his life in Lowell, he lived for a time in Kansas, California, Washington State and Wyoming. In the last years of his life, he lived on his daughter's farm in Maine as well as his hometown in Lowell, where his gregarious personality and accepting nature made him someone others sought out. Though he had many types of jobs and lived a wanderer's life, it was his strong faith that remained a constant and he was not shy about sharing it with others; he's credited with the conversion of many in his life.
Family was important to Teddy. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Fallon, of Durham, Maine, her husband, Dan, and their three children; son, Patrick Cullen, of Weymouth, and his two children; daughter, Kathleen Cullen-Lutter, of Lowell, her husband Edward and their five children; son, Peter Cullen, of Londonderry, NH, his girlfriend Stacy Chan, his two children; daughter, Tara Cullen, of Dracut, and her two children. He also leaves his late son Terrence's four children. He was also blessed with seven great grandchildren. He is also the late uncle to Kerry Coleman, her husband Elvis Jimenez, of Pelham, NH.
Teddy's family wish to extend their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of Westford House and the ICU West Department of the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for their compassionate care.
