Teresa (Areias) Nunes

Teresa (Areias) Nunes, 80, a longtime resident of Lowell, died peacefully Monday, December 19, 2011 at Northwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lowell after a lengthy illness.

Teresa, daughter of the late Manuel Areias and Rosa Augusta Vieira, was born in Terceira, Azores Portugal on May 9, 1931. She immigrated to the United States in 1966, settling in Lowell. She married her beloved husband, Manuel Nunes, on September 1, 1968 and together they celebrated over 43 years of marriage.

Teresa was a stitcher at the former Pleasant Dress Co. of Lowell prior to her retirement. She was a longtime communicant of St.
Anthony's Church in Lowell and was a member of the Holy Trinity Society. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and traveling each year to Portugal.

Besides her husband, Teresa will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Rosa F. Pereira, of Lowell, and Noemia F. Nunes and her companion Juliana Scafuto, also of Lowell; one sister, Maria Martins, her sister-in-law, Margarida Areias, two grandsons, Joseph Nunes Pereira and Andrew Nunes Pereira, all of Lowell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Teresa's life by gathering for visiting hours at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth St., Lowell on Wednesday, December 21 from 5-8 pm.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 22 from the funeral home at 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St.
Anthony's Church, 893 Central St., Lowell at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell.
