LOWELL - Stephen L. Rourke, Jr., 67, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Joan (Mayo) Rourke with whom he would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2021.
Born in Lowell on October 30, 1953, he was a son of the late Stephen L. Rourke, Sr. and Lillian T. (Cox) Rourke.
Steve was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1971. Following High School he served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged in 1975.
Prior to his retirement in 2018, he was employed by MIT Haystack Observatory in Westford and played with the company golf league for many years. He also played softball with the former 1486 Lounge softball team.
Steve enjoyed coaching his children in basketball and softball for the PYO youth leagues.
He was a longtime member and former bartender of the East End Club in Centralville.
Steve was a member of St. Rita Parish in Pawtucketville.
In addition to his wife he leaves two children, Meghan Rourke and her fiancé Patrick Sheehey and William Rourke and his wife Erin (Doherty) Rourke; two grandchildren, Olivia Lillian Rourke and Emma Rose Sheehey; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Rourke, three sisters-in-law, Claire (Hubert) Rourke, Barbara (Mayo) Lecam and Brenda (Mayo) Williams and her husband Brian; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was the father of the late Mary Joan "M.J." Rourke, brother of the late Andrew S. Rourke and Eileen (Rourke) Golden and her husband Thomas A. Golden, Sr.
Relatives and friends are invited to Steve's Life Celebration on Friday from 3 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. Due to health restrictions, face coverings and social distancing are required. Services will be private.
