Stella G. (Spaneas) Maniatakos
January 22, 1931 — February 6, 2021
LOWELL - Stella G. (Spaneas) Maniatakos, age 90, a longtime resident of Lowell passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021, at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was married to the love of her life, the late George J. Maniatakos, for over thirty-nine years.
Born in Peabody, MA on January 22, 1931, Stella was the daughter of the late George P. and Anthoula Catherine (Psoinas) Spaneas. She was raised in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School.
Stella had a love of serving others and worked at McDonald's on Bridge Street in Dracut and for the Lowell school district for many years in the cafeteria.
The matriarch of the family and proud, first generation Greek American, Stella's life was centered around her children and grandchildren. To family, friends, and all who knew her, she was affectionately known as "Yia Yia", and was a second grandmother to many. She loved to socialize and enjoyed cooking and entertaining for everyone that came to her home. Her door was always open, welcoming all with food, humor, and conversation. She was adored by her family who will cherish her lifetime of memories.
She is survived by her daughter, Johnna A. McArthur and her husband Joseph of Pelham, NH; two sons, Daniel G. Maniatakos and his wife Jocelyn of Lowell, MA and Stephen J. Maniatakos and his wife Maria of Hudson, NH. She was the beloved Yia Yia of her five grandchildren, Katherine McArthur of New York, NY, Joseph McArthur and his longtime girlfriend, Victoria Gouveia of Nashua, NH, Cristine Maniatakos of Lowell, MA, John Maniatakos and Nicholas Maniatakos, both of Hudson, NH.
She was also survived by her sister, Constadina Liberti of Peabody, MA who passed on February 12; two sisters-in-law, Theodora Spaneas of Peabody and Angela Nash of Key Biscayne, FL. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Stella was also the sister of the late, Peter G., Daniel G., Nicholas G., and Irene G. Spaneas, and Stamatia G. Pappafotopoulos.
She was a woman of faith and a longtime parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, MA.
Our family will miss her dearly as she was our guiding light.
It being her wish, funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's memory to Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, 280 Merrimack St #400, Lawrence, MA 01843.
