Socrates G. Bouras

Lowell - Socrates G. Bouras passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 5, 2009. He was 84. A longtime resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, he was the beloved husband of Polyexene (Tsechrintzis) Bouras with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 19.
Born in Kalamata, Greece on September 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Georgios and Alexandra (Papadopoulos) Bouras.
Socretes served six years in the Greek Army prior to emigrating to the United States in 1956.
He was an excellent scuba diver, who collected killer clams, corals, and rare shells. Socrates was baptized in the River Jordan.
He was employed by GTE Sylvainia as an Associate Electronics Technician. In 1971 he was transferred to Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands where he worked for 3 � years as an electronics technician on the Altair radar on Roi-Namur island.
Socrates will be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand and offer his help to many.
He is survived by a daughter and son in law, Alexandra and Christos Roussakos of FL; a son and daughter in law, George S. and Sharon (Zujus) Bouras of VA; five grandchildren, Helene Modeski and her husband Craig of Dracut, Peter C. and Andrew G. Bouras of VA, Diamond and Demetrios Roussakos of FL, to whom he was very devoted. Two great grandchildren, Rachel P. and Nicholas C. Modeski of Dracut, with whom he shared a close bond. He was the father of the late Margo Elaine Roussakos, father in law of the late Elias Roussakos, and brother in law of the late Spyros G. Tsechrintzis.
