Simonne Marie (Levasseur) Baribeault, age 99, a longtime resident of Lowell passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at D’Youville Senior Care. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger M. Baribeault who died in 2000.
She was born in L’Isle Verte, Quebec, Canada on September 22, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Alfred and Emilie (Dumont) Levasseur. She attended St. Louis School and Lowell High School.
Simonne spent most of her life tending to the needs of her home and family. Earlier in life she worked as a secretary for the Quartermaster Corps in Washington D.C. during World War II. She also worked with her husband at their store, Baribeault’s Market in Lowell.
In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, doing puzzles, playing cards, rides to the beach and the mountains and spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee and Cobbetts Pond. She also loved to sit on her porch and loved to watch the world from her perch. She also enjoyed her many trips to Las Vegas, Canada and Disney World. She always had an open door for friends and family to stop by and visit. Her daily passion was a chocolate ice cream cone or anything chocolate.
Simonne’s family would like to thank the staff of D’Youville Senior Care, especially the west wing, for the care and compassion that they gave to her during her stay there and Dr. Louis Bresnick for his care and guidance.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Michael Lonergan of Windham, NH; and son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Donna Baribeault of Tyngsboro, MA; and daughter and son-in-law Rachel and Ron Normandin of Hudson, NH; two sisters, Cecile Demers of Hudson, NH and Evelyn Bakalyar and her husband Robert of Dracut MA; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late baby girl Baribeault and the sister of the late Wilfred Levasseur and Pauline Cox.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Simonne’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Simonne’s memory to D’Youville Resident Activities, 981 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01879.
