S. Gertrude (Jussaume) Skalkeas, 87, of Chelmsford, formerly of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, died Saturday July 9, 2011, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, NH. She was the wife of the late Andrew G. Skalkeas.
Born in Lowell on April 29, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Aurore (Gagnon) Jussaume.
Gertrude was a very skilled and talented seamstress. Among her many hobbies, Gertrude enjoyed jig- saw and word search puzzles. Whenever possible, Gertrude loved dining out with her friends. She also found great joy in flowers and gardening. Gert considered herself an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.
She held membership in the Transfiguration Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Survivors include a son, George A. Skalkeas and his wife, Maureen of Dunedin, FL; a daughter, Susan M. Pappas and her husband, Nicholas of Hudson, NH; a sister, Rita Jussaume of Lowell; two sisters-in-law, Gabrielle Jussaume of Canada and Solange Paquet of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Basil Skalkeas of Aurora, OH; five grandchildren, Thomas A. Skalkeas of Martinsburg, WV, Victoria C. Evans and her husband, Nicholas of Baltimore, MD, Angela R. Skalkeas of Silver Spring, MD, Stephanie L. Gill and her husband, Rev. Conan Gill of Albuquerque, NM, Melanie A. Pappas of Hampton, NH; four great grandchildren, Hunter T. Skalkeas, Hadley V. Skalkeas, Eleanor C. Evans and Nikolaos C. Gill; many nieces, nephews and dear friends at Summer Place in Chelmsford. She was a sister to the late Robert, Raymond and Donald Jussaume.
