Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother
Rose (Welenc) Grady, 96, a longtime resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. (Doc) Grady.
Born in Danvers on May 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anastasia (Szalkowski) Welenc.
Prior to her retirement, Rose worked for the City of Lowell as an administrator for the Colburn School and also for the Record Bureau of the Lowell Police Department.
Rose was an avid reader and puzzle maker and loved gardening. She enjoyed trips to Ogunquit, Maine to walk the Marginal Way with her family. Rose enjoyed watching the local sports teams, especially the Bruins and Red Sox, but had a special love for Notre Dame Football.
Most important to Rose was her faith and family; she was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Polish Church in Lowell for many years.
She leaves three children and their spouses, Kevin and Suzanne (Hazel) Grady of Franklin, Brian and Lori (Bogosh) Grady of Hampton, NH, and Roseann (Grady) and Victor Zelny of Boston; six grandchildren, Ryan Grady, Matthew Grady, Brett Grady and his fiancée, Madison Fahle, Zachary Grady, Victoria Zelny and her husband Matt Fusaro, Micayla Zelny and her husband Donovan Driscoll; two great grandchildren, Merritt Driscoll and Vincenzo Zelny. One of ten children, she was predeceased by Joseph Welenc, Walter Welenc, James Welenc, who was killed in action during World War II, Frances Welenc, Sophia McLaughlin, Alice Welenc, William Welenc, Edmund Welenc and Bertha “Honey” Bourassa.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rose’s Life Celebration on Sunday from 2 until 4 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11 AM in the Holy Trinity Polish Church, 350 High Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
