Ronald A. Smelstor

Ronald A. Smelstor, Sr., the beloved husband of Carole (Lavalle) Smelstor, died at his Lowell residence on Monday March 10, 2014, with his family by his side. He was 76.
Born in Somerville on December 23, 1937, he was a son of the late Anthony and Helen (Lisowski) Smelstor.
Ron was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy.
Ron had many talents and interests. In earlier years he coached Little League Baseball. Ron enjoyed woodworking and made furniture for his family. His family and friends knew that he could look at something, figure it out and fix or build it. He also had duct tape in his tool box and wasn't afraid to use it.
He liked to golf, play video card games, tend to his garden, and watch sports on television. He also enjoyed watching murder mysteries. Ron was a devoted fan of the Young and the Restless. His family and friends knew never to call or drop in when it was on.
In his late-thirty's Ron dabbled with oil painting, his talent was evident. He loved sharing his artwork with his family and friends.
He loved the outdoors whether it was in Florida or Lowell, he just enjoyed being in the sun and outside. Ron was fond of food, especially seafood like lobster and steamed clams.
His family describes him as a dedicated and loving man who was loyal and protective of his family. He was a funny person with a stubborn streak. Family was paramount to Ron, whether it was getting together for Sunday dinner or watching his grandchildren play sports, he cherished the time he spent with all of them.
Surviving him besides his wife Carole of 57 years are his children and their spouses, Ronald A Smelstor, Jr. and Joni Colt of Vermont, Patti and Frank Enfanto of Wakefield, Diane and Tim Windrom of Lowell, Judie and Bob Nogler of Dracut; twelve grandchildren, Ron Lotti and his wife Lori, Jennifer Lotti, Maggie Hesketh, Christine, Ronald III (Colt), and Bradley Smelstor, Lisa Lynch and her husband Christopher, Steven Enfanto, Michael Doloriert, Kristen and Hailey Nogler; two great granddaughters, Bella Lotti and Kaylee Lynch. He was also the father of the late Katherine Wuth and Christine Marie Smelstor and grandfather of the late Christopher Enfanto.
