Ronald Roberge, beloved husband of Jacqueline (Draper) Roberge, died at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, June 13, 2016, following a period of declining health.
Ronald was born in Lowell on March 13, 1936, a son of the late Wilfrid "Fido" and Rena (Giroux) Roberge. He was a graduate of Keith Academy and attended Lowell Technological Institute. Ronald was stationed in England while serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return he began his career in the computer industry, attending IBM school in New York and then working for IBM in Wisconsin. Ron returned to Massachusetts and met Jackie while bowling. They were married for 55 years. Ronald was employed by several technology companies; he worked on computer systems used on the Concorde and spent time traveling internationally teaching courses on computer troubleshooting and maintenance. When Ronald retired he worked part-time for several years as a chair van driver for Trinity Ambulance.
Ronald was a man of few words with a unique, dry sense of humor. If you were one of the few Ronald said "I like you" to, you knew you were loved. He enjoyed listening to people and sharing an occasional story or two with the patrons at the former Water Wheel and O'Hara's Tavern. In his younger years, Ronald played softball for the Pawtucketville Social Club Team. Ronald loved family gatherings, annual trips to Markey's for lobster and steamers with Jackie, sharing a Manhattan with his friend and late brother in-law Maurice Ouellette and spending time each day reading the local paper to find clips and photos noting his grandchildren's achievements.
Surviving Ronald besides his wife Jackie are his three children and their spouses; Russell and Denise Roberge of Billerica, Douglas and Gail Roberge of Dracut, Danielle and Allen Gault of Derry, NH; eleven grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, Tyler, Joshua, Ryan, AJ, Meghan, Delaney, Madison, Michael and Lauren; two great-grandchildren; Logan and Haley; his sister Leonore Ouellette of Lowell; his sister in-laws Beverly Roberge of Lowell and Barbara Goldston of Bedford, TX. He was the father of the late Darren and Dana Roberge and the brother of the late Richard Roberge. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
