DRACUT - Ronald J. Guilmette, 70, a resident of Dracut for many years, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife of 22 years, Sandra Ruth (Hebert) Guilmette who died in 1985.
Born in Lowell, on August 10, 1940, he was a son of the late Alfred and Ruth (Young) Guilmette.
In his youth, Ron played baseball as a catcher for the first established Little League in Lowell playing on the Red Sox team at the Shedd Park Baseball Diamond.
He boxed in the Silver Mittens and the Golden Gloves and was a title holder in both organizations.
One of his proudest accomplishments was his 35 years of service with the Army National Guard, with whom he received numerous decorations and awards. An active volunteer for many community service organizations, he was on the committee to build the Dracut Veteran's Park. He was the Past Commander of the Dracut American Legion, Post 315, and a member of the Centralville Social Club, Franco-American Club and the former Dracut Civic Club. He was a fixture at the Memorial Day Parade in Dracut holding the Post of Sergeant at Arms.
Ron was employed for 33 years by the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA, from which he retired.
Ron enjoyed travelling and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Tony Guilmette and his wife Christina of Lowell; a daughter, Darlene Ouellette and her husband Leo of Dracut; two grandchildren, Lyssandra Guilmette of Nashua, NH and Erik Guilmette of Lowell; two step grandchildren, Steven and Brian Gilman of Lowell; five sisters and their husbands, Connie and Joseph Dussault of Lowell, Sandra Bergeron of Dracut, Judy and Ron Dempski of Atkinson, NH, Nancy and Frank Bargardo of Nashua, NH and Debbie and Ray Marion of Dracut; a brother and his wife, Gary and Terry Guilmette; two close childhood friends, Ray Leclair of Pelham, NH and Bobby Lafontaine of FL; a brother-in-law, Richard Hebert and his companion Sandi Millett of Dracut; also numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends at all the Social Clubs and Veteran's Clubs he belonged to. He was a brother of the late Jerry Guilmette.
