DRACUT - Roland L. Tanguay, 81, a resident of Dracut, died following a brief illness on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Claire Irene (Nadeau) Tanguay who died on March 2, 2009, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on September 7, 1927, he was a son of the late Leo C. and Marie A. (Landry) Tanguay.
Mr. Tanguay served with the United States Army during World War II.
In his youth, he was well known throughout the Lowell area as a Tap Dancer and was known by many as the "Prince of Lowell"
He retired from Freudenberg Nonwovens Ltd. in Lowell, but most would remember him as a driving instructor for the Lowell Auto School and the Wannalancit Driving School which he did for over 30 years.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine M. and Steven J. Marcotte of Dracut, Pauline J. and Donald Nadeau of Lawrence and Maureen E. Tanguay of Lowell; three grandchildren, Kimberly Lucier and her husband John of GA, David J. Marr and his companion Kathy Benoit of Somerset and Steven Moreau and his wife Allison of Framingham; five great grandchildren, Erin, Kiley and Joseph Lucier, Hannah and Kevin Moreau; four step-grandchildren, Melissa Daniels and her husband George of GA, Lisa Fennelly and her husband George of Reading, Donald Nadeau, Jr. and his wife Brooke of Londonderry, NH and Joseph Nadeau and his wife Krista of Lawrence; eight step-great grandchildren, Logan and Madison Daniels, Alexandria, Adriana, Melanie and Dillon Nadeau, Callie and Madison Nadeau; a sister and her husband, Lucille and Stanley Stasiowski of Chelmsford; a brother and his wife, Thomas and Nancy O'Rourke of Leominster. He was a brother of the late Roger Tanguay and Daniel Rourke.
