Roland Paquette, the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Leclair) Paquette, died at his Dracut residence on Saturday, August 6, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 83.
Born in Lowell on January 22, 1933, he was a son of the late Homer and Cecile (Langlais) Paquette.
Roland enlisted in the Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Upon the completion of his service he came home and married Jacqueline. On May 4th they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Roland was employed as a machinist for 10 years at the Raytheon Corporation, and retired after 25 years of service at the former St. John's Hospital where he was a maintenance specialist. He was responsible for repairing and maintaining hospital equipment.
Roland was artistic and was asked to create signs for hospital events. They would continue to seek his help following his retirement.
Roland was a perpetual volunteer. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels after his retirement from the hospital and looked forward to his daily interactions while dropping off meals. Roland was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish and volunteered at their Bingo. Active in the Boy Scouts, Roland served as scout leader in the Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish troop. A jack of all trades, Roland even made the race track for the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby.
Mr. Fix it as he was called by family and friends, Roland was asked to fix and build things all the time which he loved to do especially in his workshop.
An avid bowler, Roland was a member and president of the former St. John's Bowling League for 30 years.
Roland enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and looked forward to dancing at all social events.
A compassionate and quick witted person, he was a homebody. Roland enjoyed his home and pool, especially with his family.
Surviving him besides his wife are his four children and spouses, Diane and Normand Morin, Julie Lefebvre all of Lowell, Paul Paquette, David and Jean Paquette all of Dracut; nine grandchildren, Harmony, Bambie, Todd, Melody, Adam, Sean, Alan, Steven, Marc; twenty great grandchildren; a brother and sister in law, Gerald and Jacqueline Paquette of Billerica; sisters in law and brothers in law, Sr. Lucille Leclair, SASV, of Nicolet Canada, Henry and Patricia Leclair of Burlington, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
