Roland Luke Lussier O.M.I.

West Palm Beach, FL - Rev. Roland "Luke" Lussier, O.M.I., died suddenly Friday, July 30, 2004, at his residence in West Palm Beach, Fl. He was 82 and had been a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate for almost 60 years.
Fr. Lussier was born in Lowell, MA and raised in Springfield, MA where he attended St. Thomas Aquinas School. He did his High School and Junior College Studies at the Oblate Seminary in Colbrook, NH, entered the Oblate Novitiate in Hudson, NH in 1941, and pronounced his first vows a year later.
He studied Theology at the Oblate Seminary in Natick, MA and was ordained a priest in Lowell on Feb. 8, 1947 by Bishop Collignon of Haiti.
Fr. Lussier followed his ordaining Bishop back to Haiti, and served there for more than 40 years. After a few years as an Associate Pastor, he was Pastor in Coteaux, Point-A-Piment, Les Cayes and Cap Hatien. He also served as the Oblates' Vicar Provintial from 1956-1960.
In 1989 he returned to the Untied States, following many of his former parishioners from Haiti, and ministered to them in Fort Pierce, FL for 6 years. He then spent a year as Pastor in Abbeville, SC, before retiring from active ministry, residing in Riviera Beach, Tewksbury, MA and finally in West Palm Beach, FL where he died.
He is survived by his sister, Viola Librero of Springfield, MA; his brother, John Lussier of Conyers, GA; and by cousins in West Palm Beach, FL.
