Lowell - After a year-long battle with cancer, Roland Marcotte, the beloved husband of Denise (Vadeboncoeur) Marcotte died peacefully on Tuesday November 23, 2010 at his home on Market Street in Lowell, surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. He was 70 years old and would have turned 71 on November 24.
A lifelong Lowell resident, Roland was the son of the late Frederick and Eva (Bruneau) Marcotte, having grown up on Sawtelle Place in the Highlands section of the city.
A Jack-of-all-trades, Roland was well known throughout the Greater Lowell area for his handiwork. He was equally adept building a porch deck, or installing a floor or ceiling, as he was fixing a car transmission.
Many friends and family members will be reminded of Roland during the holidays when they decorate their homes with one of the unique wooden Christmas mangers that he handcrafted and gave away as gifts.
After a stint in the US Marine Corps in the early 1960's, Roland worked for several local companies before becoming a subcontractor in the construction field. Roland enjoyed travel, fresh and saltwater fishing and playing lottery scratch tickets.
In addition to his wife, Roland is survived by two sons; David and his wife Debbie of Pelham, NH, Michael and his wife Rocio of Tyngsboro; a daughter Lissa and her companion Gary Kalip of Haverhill; two grandchildren, Matthew, 12, and Cassandra, 1; Roland leaves two brothers, Leo and his wife Diane of Nashua, NH, Alfred of Hudson, NH; two sisters, Doris Bisson of Dracut, the wife of the late Roland Bisson; Lillian Dalpe and her husband, Lucien. He also leaves a brother in law, Dennis Shaughnessey and his wife Diane, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
