Roland Hogue, 84, of Dracut, died Monday December 6, 2010 following an extended illness at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Florence D. (Breault) Hogue.
Born in Dracut on August 14, 1926, he was a son of the late Narcisse and Rose (Ducharme) Hogue.
On September 1, 1944, Roland enlisted in the United States Navy. During his service, Roland saw action while serving on the U.S.S. St. Paul in various areas of the South Pacific.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Roland became a barber and owned barber shop in Lowell on the corner of Ludlam and Hildreth Streets. After closing his shop he went on to work for the Lowell Water Department until his retirement in 1983.
Roland was an active parishioner at St. Francis Church in Dracut where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He loved to play cribbage and held membership in the St. Francis Church Cribbage League. He enjoyed music and dancing and was a true Red Sox fan. He was a loving, family man and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor.
Roland is survived by seven children and their spouses, David M. Hogue and his wife, Dianne of Dracut, Ronald R. Hogue and his wife, Deborah of Merrimack, NH, Michael H. Hogue and his wife, Laura of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Robert R. Hogue and his wife, Gloria of Dracut, Elaine Laurent and her husband, Richard of Wilton, NH, Diane Zappala and her husband, David of Methuen and Janice M. Hogue of Dracut; a sister, Claire Beaudette of Chelmsford; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late David Hogue, Dolores Arel and Annette Dauphinais.
