Roland E. "Butch" Hamilton, widower of Priscilla M. (Frechette) Hamilton, a former Lowell resident, died on Monday March 5, 2012, following an extended illness. He was 78.
Butch was born in Lowell on November 21, 1933 a son of the late Charles Edward and Marie (Arsenault) Hamilton.
Prior to his retirement, Butch was employed in the security department at Raytheon for 25 years. For the past 15 years he worked in the transportation department at Saints Memorial Medical Center. He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church.
An avid sports fan, Butch was a former Professional Duckpin Bowler and a member of the Duckpin Professional Bowlers Association. Butch was also a former baseball and softball player. He also coached area Little League and Legion teams. Butch was also an avid golfer and played in several area leagues. He was a member of the Tyngsboro Sportsman's Club where he participated in competitive shooting.
Above all Butch would drop everything he was doing for his grandchildren. He would attend all of their events, and often was seen in the outfield catching balls to help them improve their sport.
Survivors include his two children, Roger E. Hamilton of Hudson, NH, Cheryl A. Hamilton Dirsa and her husband Mark F. Dirsa of Shavertown, PA; five grandchildren, Kristin Hamilton, Joshua Hamilton and his wife Darylee, Michael Dirsa, Amanda Dirsa, Zachary Dirsa; two brothers and a sister in law, Donald Hamilton of Lowell, Paul and Charlotte Hamilton of Salem, NH; a sister Irene Gaudette of Hollis, NH. He was also the grandfather of the late Christopher Hamilton.
