Roland W. Demers, a long time Dracut resident and beloved husband of the late Rita L. (Demers) Demers, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was 85 years young.
Roland Was born in Nashua, NH on November 18, 1932, a son of the late Theodore and Laura (Farland) Demers. He enlisted in the US Navy as a young man and served during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, Roland was employed for over 25 years by RCA that later became General Electric. He was a model maker and was instrumental in designing prototypes for Apollo 13.
Roland enjoyed woodworking and made many wood models of cars and trucks. In retirement, he found a passion for golf and could be found at Pine Valley in Pelham, NH three or four times a week. He and his golfing buddies would always play poker following their round.
Roland was a kind person who always had time for his family and neighbors. Roland forged lifelong close bonds with his friends and neighbors, who all pitched in and helped each other. Roland's daughters, greatly appreciate them and wish to thank Roland's friends and neighbors for all of the help and support they gave to their father over the years.
Survivors include his two daughters, Gail Peters of Lowell, Donna Demers of Salem, NH; two grandchildren, Timothy and Chris Peters; three great grandchildren, TJ, Damien, Jacob; a sister, Claire Phaneuf of FL; a sister in law Judy Demers of Dracut: and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maurice "Mike" Demers.
Relatives and friends are invited to Roland's Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, on Tuesday from 9:00 until 11:00 AM. His funeral will follow in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
