DRACUT - Roger R. Roy, 90, a longtime resident of Dracut died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Germaine C. (Gagne) Roy, who died in 1997.
He was born in Lowell on May 26, 1927, and was a son of the late Achille and Sylvia (Hamel) Roy. He was raised and educated in Lowell and attended Northeastern University and Boston University.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class during World War II. During that time he was a member of the Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) and had worked on enlarging Higgins Air Field in Hawaii. He was also stationed in Guam and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
Roger was employed for 32 years by the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital before retiring as the Chief of Food Service Administrator.
In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, traveling, dining out, and attending family events.
Roger was a member of the Dracut American Legion, Post 315; the Lowell Lodge of Elks, the St. Therese's Mens Club, and the Dracut Senior Citizens Club. He was also a former member of the Epicurean Club of Boston and a former board member of the Federal Credit Union.
He is survived by his daughter, Therese (Roy) Przybyla and her husband Joseph of Hudson, NH; his three sons, Robert Roy and his wife Estelle of Dracut, Paul Roy and his wife Marsha of Hudson, NH, and Michael Roy and his wife Dianne of Lowell; seven grandchildren, Paul Roy and his wife Shaina, David Roy and his wife Jessica, Kristine Smith and her husband Bryan, Katelyn Bowen and her husband Matthew, Daniel Roy and his wife Jessica, Michelle Wasik and her husband Thomas, and Eric Roy; ten great grandchildren; his sister, Terry Gagne of Dracut; his very close friend, Elizabeth Falardeau of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.
