Roger H. LaPlante

Roger H. LaPlante, 84, a resident of Dracut, died Monday afternoon, April 4, 2016 at the Lowell General Hospital from a recent illness.

Born in Lowell on April 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Ernest and Laura (Blanchette) LaPlante. He was educated in Lowell and Hopkington, MA.

He served during the Korean War with the United States Army and received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in battle, and upon completion of his tour of duty, he was Honorably discharged.

For over 40 years he worked in the seafood industry and was plant manager at Commodore Foods in Lowell for many of them. Following is retirement, he worked part time for several years at Winchester Hospital. In his younger years, he was a pitcher on a softball team, enjoyed bowling, duck hunting, and playing golf. He also enjoyed cooking.

Roger is survived by two sisters, Rita and Barbara LaPlante of Lowell; several nieces and nephews; his sisters in law, Rita LaPlante of Dracut, wife of Joseph, Julie LaPlante of Lowell, wife of Maurice, and Helen LaPlante of Willimantic, CT, wife of Francis; and his best friend of 48 years, Maurice O'Brien, Jr. of Dracut.

He was the brother of the late Raymond, David, Joseph, Maurice and Francis LaPlante, and Robert Sheehan, Mary Brunelle, Alice Varnum, Gertrude Gagnon, Eleanor St. Onge, Elizabeth Duval and Theresa LaPlante.
