Roger E. Lafond, a Dracut resident and the beloved husband of Josette S. (Beaulieu) Lafond, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus surrounded by his beloved family. He was 81.
Born in Lowell on January 19, 1936, he was a son of the late Eugene and Yvonne (Rondeau) Lafond.
Roger grew up in Lowell and moved to Dracut as a teenager, to the family homestead on Mammoth Rd.
Roger worked maintenance for the Dracut School Department for more than 25 years. He also owned a carpentry and siding business called Custom Woodwork. Roger was a hard worker and instilled this in his children, especially his sons who had the good fortune to work with their dad.
A devout Catholic, Roger was a longtime communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish. He was also a member of the Men's Club there. Roger was a member of the Dracut Lions Club, where he enjoyed helping with many fundraisers. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Roger loved to golf and looked forward to golfing whenever he could with his uncle and cousin. He also enjoyed hunting with his son and brother in law, or sitting at home and watching a good western movie or show.
Roger and Josette looked forward to their many trips together. They visited Florida, Panama, Venezuela, and Alaska to name a few. They also enjoyed the Monday visits to Panera Bread in Chelmsford to meet friends.
Roger could always be counted on to help out whenever needed. He was a loving father that cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving Roger besides Josette, his wife of 60 years, are their six children and spouses, Roger E. Jr., and Barbara Lafond of Savannah, GA, Jean R. and Deborah Lafond, Louise Y. Murphy, Yvan S. Lafond, all of Dracut, Lisa J. and Sean O'Neil of Merrimac, Pierre P. Lafond of Dracut; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Claire Gagnon of Lowell; a brother in law, Serge Beaulieu of TX; and several nieces and nephews.
