DRACUT - Roger R. Hamelin, age 76, a longtime resident of Dracut died Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Linda B. (MacDonald) Hamelin, to whom he was married for 32 years.
He was born in Lowell on January 15, 1948, and was a son of the late Raymond V. and Violet A. (Roy) Hamelin. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
Roger began his career as a civilian for the Navy Department of Defense working as an electrical inspector for the supervisor of ship building. In later years, he worked as a contract specialists before retiring. During his 36 years of employment with the Navy he worked in Weymouth, Boston, Portsmouth and Maine.
Roger was a very talented woodworker and enjoyed raising birds, boating, traveling across the country and going to amusement parks, especially riding rollercoasters. He also enjoyed spending his summers with his family at Totem Pole Park and Ossipee Lake in Freedom, NH, where he especially cherished his time with adoring grandchildren.
He was a longtime member of Birds of a Feather Club.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his two children, Lisa DeBrum and her husband Robert of Groton and Jason Hamelin and his wife Jeanette Frost of Phippsburg, ME; two step-children, Karen Noyes and her husband Brian Schrom of Benton City, WA and Lisa Lourenco and her husband Roger of Middleboro; six grandchildren, Cordelia DeBrum, Abigail Lourenco, Mason Lourenco, Amelia Lourenco, Charlotte Schrom and Frances Schrom; a brother, Raymond Hamelin and his wife Rose of Catonsville, MD; a sister, Jeanne Brodeur of Windham, NH; and several nieces, nephews and god children. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Roger’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth St., Lowell on Wednesday, August 28th from 10:00am until 12:00pm followed by his Funeral Service at 12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory the Alzheimer’s Association of MA/NH, 320 Nevada St, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460.
