Lowell

LOWELL - Roger R. Dugas, age 96, a longtime resident of the Christian Hill section of Centralville in Lowell died Monday, September 25, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital following a period of declining health.  He was the beloved husband of Mary P. (Pereira) Dugas, to whom he has been married for 73 years.  

He was born in Lowell on August 22, 1927, and was a son of the late Jean Louis and Cecile (Cormier) Dugas.  He received his education in Lowell schools. 

Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.  

Upon discharge from the army, he was employed by the Charlestown Navy Yard.  He then went on to work as a Linotype Operator for 32 years for Courier Citizen in Lowell.  He retired in 1989 from the former Wang Laboratories in Lowell.  

Roger was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael Church in Lowell.     

He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics.  

Roger will be remembered by all that new him as a truly selfless man with a great sense of humor, who loved his family, especially his adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

In addition to his wife, He is survived by his daughter Joanne Dugas of Lowell; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sherry Dugas of Alton, NH, David and Kathleen Dugas of Lowell and Steven and Christina Dugas of Tyngsboro; eleven grandchildren, Chandra Cantor and her husband Michael, Shala Rousseau and her husband Al, Aria Newton and her husband Grant Richardson, Peter Dugas, Cara Colon and her husband Jose, Jessica Dugas, Hanna Lutz and her husband Jason Viteri, Nicholas Lutz and his wife Julie, Alex Dugas and his fianceé Andrea Jannotta, Miranda Lutz and he was also the grandfather of the late Anthony Dugas; thirteen great grandchildren, Alyssa, Bodhi, Noah, Baylee, Amelia, Jude, Jasper, Nico, Aubree, Camila, Elias, Cosmo and Ezra; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late George Dugas, Armand “Pete” Dugas, Yvette Ouellette, Rita Dougherty and Theresa Whalen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Roger’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Tuesday, October 10th from 9:00 until 11:00am followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00am at the funeral home.  Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rogers memory to American Bladder Cancer Society, 12 Flansburg Ave., Dalton, MA 01226-1409.
