Roger J. Brunelle

November 28, 1934 — February 10, 2021

LOWELL - Roger J. Brunelle, age 86, a longtime resident of Lowell died Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Alyce A. (Sedlevich) Brunelle, to whom he was married for 48 years.

He was born in Lowell on November 28, 1934, and was a son of the late Rudolphe and Yvonne (Levy) Brunelle. He received his early education at the St. Louis School in Lowell and was a graduate of the Séminaire de Sherbrooke, a high school in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from St. John Seminary in Brighton and his Master's Degree in Linguistics from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT.

Roger served his country in the United States Army.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 48 years as a French and Latin teacher in the public high schools of Dracut, Lowell, Ayer, and finishing his career in Nashua, NH.

Roger was a member of the Lowell V.F.W., Post 662.

He was an avid reader, especially of Latin and Roman history, and he enjoyed writing.

Roger was also very proud of his French-Canadian heritage and was a longtime member of the Franco-American Day Committee. He was also a founding member of Lowell Celebrates Kerouac and created Kerouac tours of Lowell which he led for 35 years for people from all over the world.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Denis Brunelle and his wife Nicole of Dracut; his daughter, Dr. Stephanie Brunelle and her partner Lorence Heikell of Seattle, WA; his three grandchildren, Raymond Brunelle of Grand Forks, ND, Luke Brunelle and Carmela Brunelle, both of Dracut; and his step-grandson, Sam Heikell of Seattle, WA; a brother, André Brunelle and his wife Linda of Bonita Springs, FL; his sister, Muriel Brunelle Frechette of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also the brother of the late Ronald Brunelle and the brother-in-law of the late Leo "Butch" Frechette and Ruth Brunelle.

Roger's family would like to thank the staff of Lowell General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for their care and compassion throughout his stay with them.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services were private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Roger's memory to the ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave, Waltham, MA 02451.
