LOWELL – Robert J. Powers, 80, a resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at a local healthcare facility surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Virginia A. (Inglis) Powers with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on March 21, 1936, he was a son of the late James and Madalyn (Curley) Powers. He attended the Lowell schools and he graduated from Sylvania Tech.
Mr. Powers had been employed as a Service Representative for Dupont Company of Wilmington, Delaware and previously had been employed as a printer for the Courier Citizen Corp. for over 25 years. He was the past President of local 109 Printing Pressman Union.
He was a devote Catholic and served as a lay apostolate for the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity on the Sioux Indian Reservation. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and had served the Parish as a Eucharistic Minister.
He also served for a time with the Army Reserves.
In addition to his wife Virginia, he leaves four children, Robert J. Powers of Pine Mountain, CA, Carrie Ann Powers of Westford, Martha DiMilla and her husband Andrew of Melrose and Molly Simmons and her husband Paul Simmons, MD of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Monick Ya Powers, Matthew Powers So and Luke DiMilla; a brother, David Powers and his wife Carol of San Marcos, TX; two sisters, Madalyn McLaughlin of Tewksbury and Judith Sholik of Salem, NH; a sister-in-law, Barbara Powers of Seabrook, NH; also several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Patricia Chaput, James Powers and Maurice Powers.
