Robert A. Poitras, Sr., 72, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Friday July 22, 2011 at the Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Loretta A. (Baillargeon) Poitras.
Born in Lowell on June 27, 1939, he was a son of the late Gerard and Rose (Sirois) Poitras.
For many years, Bob worked as an inventory and cost accountant with Ideal Tape of Lowell until his retirement.
Bob was a man of strong faith. He was very active at St. Patrick Church in Lowell, having served as a Eucharistic minister. He was an active member of the Catholic Ministry and had also been a religious education instructor. Bob was also a member of the Holy Name Society.
Above all things, Bob loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to vacation with his family and enjoyed several cruises.
Survivors include, three sons, Bruce R. Poitras and his wife, Cheryl of Billerica, Rev. Steven W. Poitras of Lowell, Rev. Robert A. Poitras, Jr. of Georgetown; three daughters, Pamela J. Lupien and her husband, Richard of Dracut, Brenda G. Martin and her husband, Kevin of Lowell, Marie C. Hemmerle and her husband, Dan of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Gerard W. Poitras of Nashua, NH, Roland Poitras of NC; two sisters, Florence Cahill and her husband, Ed of Orlando, FL, Theresa Caloggero of Lowell; ten grandchildren; Amanda, Stacey, Danielle, Antonio, Adam, Shelby, Ashley, James, Lori and Dane; two great grandchildren, Neverlee and Xander; many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Daniel A. Poitras and brother of the late Doris Demonceau and Irene Hubert.
