Alton, NH - Robert V. Levasseur, 85, a resident of Alton, NH for the last several years, but a former lifelong Dracut resident, died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. He was the beloved husband of M. Pauline (Duval) Levasseur with whom he was married for 59 years.
Born in Lowell on May 13, 1923, he was a son of the late Emile and Blanche (Dion) Levasseur.
Mr. Levasseur enlisted with the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard the U.S.S. Belleau Wood. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 7 stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars, the American Theatre Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his service in the Navy, he was employed as a chef for several restaurants, most notably the Club Diner in Lowell which he owned and operated and Lowell General Hospital Food Service from which he retired.
While residing in Dracut he and his wife where members of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert V. and Kathleen Levasseur, Jr. of Alton, NH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela M. and Larry Rivera, Jr. of Lowell and Judith M. and Donald MacClellan of Franklin; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris and Arthur Erickson of Albany, GA, Lorraine Cannon of Lowell, Yvette Graham of Merrimack, NH and Helen and Robert Belanger of GA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Pat Levasseur of Deland, FL and David and Elaine Levasseur of Dracut; six grandchildren, Michelle Rivera of Los Angeles, CA, Larry Rivera of Lowell, Marc and Andrew Levasseur of Alton, NH and Philip and Sarah MacClellan of Franklin; also several nieces and nephews.
