Lowell - Robert J. Harrington, 77, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Saturday April 9, at a local nursing home following a brief illness.
He was born in Lowell on September 16, 1927, a son of the late William C. and Katherine E. (Maloney) Harrington.
Mr. Harrington was educated in Lowell Schools, and was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy.
In earlier years he was a truck driver and salesman for the Coca Cola Company, and had retired form the EN Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford after 11 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Lowell, and was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Holy Name Society there. Mr. Harrington was an avid golfer and sailor and was a member of the American Yacht Club in Newburyport, he also held membership in the Lowell Lodge of Elks. He was a tireless volunteer for many area causes.
He is survived by three brothers and two sisters in law, Jeremiah J. and Alice L Harrington of Ft. Thomas, KY, William C. and Eleanor Harrington of Lowell, George F. Harrington of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister Anne Marie Carrabis of Lowell; a sister in law Iola Harrington, of York, ME; a brother in law Alfred J. Carrabis of Lowell; 13 nieces and nephews, Mary Jo Cholod, William J. Harrington, Robert J. Harrington, Judith A. Carrabis, Kathleen E. Leisteikow, Jeffrey J. Harrington, Jane A. Carrabis, Mary Ellen Harrington, Diane A. Fokas, Brian J. Harrington, Thomas R. Carrabis, Richard A. Harrington, and Sheila A. Harrington.
