Robert L. Gagnon, Sr. , 88 of Lowell, died Tuesday May 27, 2014 at his home, following a period of declining health. He was the husband of 62 years of Claire A. (Dutile) Gagnon
Born in Lowell on December 28, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph & Louise (Gervais) Gagnon, a prominent Lowell family who owned Gagnon's Department Store in downtown Lowell from 1919-1957.
Robert was a graduate of Ste Jeanne d'Arc School and Keith Academy of Lowell and of Boston College.
A veteran of World War II, he was a radioman second class in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Panamint AGC 13 and was in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, including the Battle of Okinawa. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal. After the closing of his family's business, he went on to be employed by John Hancock Insurance Company for thirty years. Robert was Past President of Catholic Laymen, D'Youville Manor Men's Guild and Pawtucketville Social Club. He was a former Parishioner of Ste Jeanne d'Arc Parish in Lowell and a current Parishioner of St. Francis Church in Dracut.

(& Dannielle) Gagnon of Windham, NH; Danielle Gagnon of Philadelphia, PA; Jessica (& Mark) Rogers of Cambridge; Jennifer L. Gagnon of Derry, NH; Nicholas W. (& Julie) Harris of Somerville; Michael P. (& Jackie) Gagnon of Pembroke, NH; Matthew A. Trombly of Boston; Christopher G (& Simone) Harris of Marlborough; Daniel A. Bisson of Deerfield; Michelle C. Harris (& Ryan Willett) of Billerica; Andrew P. Trombly of Nashua, NH; Michael P. Bisson (& Amanda Derwinis) of Dracut; Sarah E. Gagnon of Windham, NH; David R. Gagnon of Windham, NH; Samantha M. Bisson of Lowell; Jacob Gagnon of Windham, NH; 10 great grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Cecile I. Gagnon of Dracut. He was the brother of the late Joseph A. Gagnon, Jr., Laura (Gagnon) Donehue, Paul A. Gagnon, George R. Gagnon, Albert A. Gagnon. He was also predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Catie Bisson who passed away in 2010.
