DRACUT - Robert D. McKiel, 93, a long-time resident of the Belvedere section of Lowell, most recently residing in Dracut, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late K. Lorraine (Sullivan) McKiel, with whom he shared almost 65 years of marriage prior to her passing.

Born in Charlestown, MA, on March 30, 1929, he was a son of the late Frederick H. and Ina R. (McKay) McKiel. 

Following high school, Bob enlisted with the United States Air Force and was awarded the Bronze Star while serving during the Korean War. 

Prior to his retirement, he was the founder and president of Astro Circuit of Lowell and Tewksbury.

Bob and Lorraine also had a home on Cape Cod for 37 years, where they enjoyed hosting family and friends. They also travelled extensively.

Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Robert D. McKiel, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, Scott W. and Lori McKiel of Dracut, Glenn F. and Deborah McKiel of South Pasadena, FL; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and is the brother in-law of Raymond and Josephine Timmons. He was a brother of the late Mildred Bellegarde, Gordon McKiel, and Phyllis McKiel.

Relatives and friends are invited to Bob’s Life Celebration on Thursday morning, Oct. 20, from 8:30 until 10:15 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell, MA. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM in St. Michael’s Church, Lowell, MA. Burial with military honors will follow at 3 PM in the Cummaquid Cemetery, Barnstable, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the D’Youville Foundation 981 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 or at www.dyouville.org/dyouville-foundation
