Rita L. (Demers) Sullivan, 66, of Dracut, died peacefully Saturday June 11, 2011, at the Lowell General Hospital, following a courageous, nine year battle with Meningioma brain tumors. She was surrounded by family and friends. Rita was the wife of William H. "Sully" Sullivan with whom she was married for forty-four years.
Born in Lowell on April 7, 1945, She was a daughter of the late Leo and Leontine (Gagnon) Demers. Rita graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1962 and later attended Middlesex Community College in Lowell.
For more than thirty five years, Rita had been employed as a bookkeeper for Gerald Cole, CPA until illness forced her retirement. She was also the co-owner of Sully's Tuxedos of Lowell where she spent many wonderful years working alongside Sully, their daughter, and close friends.
Rita had a true passion for life. She was a lover of music, having been an accomplished songwriter. Dancing was something Rita enjoyed often. She was a woman who loved fashion and clothing and was always admired for her style. She was a strong, fancy, faithful and kind woman whose loving spirit and zest for life was inspirational.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by a brother, Robert Demers of Haverhill; a sister, Lorraine Bergeron of Dracut, many dear friends and several nieces and nephews. She also had two Irish setter companions, Phoenix and Tucson who meant a great deal to her.
She was the adoring mother of the late Holly D. Sullivan, who passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2007. She was the sister of the late Blanche-Laponte, Leo Demers and Roland Demers.
