DRACUT - Rita M. (Bergeron) Matte, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles R. Matte, who passed away in 2000.
She was born in Swanzey, NH on October 30, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Fardina "Fred" and Amelia (Cote) Bergeron. She received her education in Lowell school and was a graduate of Lowell High School, where she was proudly a member of the school's color guard.
Prior to her retirement, Rita was employed as seamstress in the Lowell Mills. She was proud of the fact that during World War II, she did her part of helping the war effort by sewing parachutes.
She was a longtime communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Church in Dracut.
Rita belonged to the Dracut Senior Center and a member of TOPS.
She was an avid bowler and had belonged to various leagues into her 80's. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her three sons, C. Richard Matte and his wife Linda of Lovell, ME, Maurice P. "Moe" Matte and his wife Linda of Billerica, and Michael S. Matte and his fiancé, Deborah of Dracut; six grandchildren, Stephanie A. Freeman and her husband William of Chelmsford, Derek S. Matte of Billerica, Lori A. Todisco and her husband Michael of Hudson, NH, Kymm M. Smith and her husband James of Gilmanton, NH, Kellin J . Matte of Lowell, and Jillian E. Matte of Deerfield, NH; seven great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Omer Matte and his wife Camille of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maurice "Moe" Bergeron.
