DRACUT - Rita E. (Sevigny) LaPlante, 94, a longtime Dracut resident, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph E. LaPlante.
Born in Lowell on June 14, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Alcide and Mary (Boisvert) Sevigny.
Prior to her retirement, Rita was employed by Wang Labs as a mechanical assembler. She had previously worked for over 32 years for the Lowell Dress Company as a stitcher. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Union.
Rita was a lifetime church attendee and had been a communicant of Ste. Therese Church and St. Francis Church.
She had a love for life and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rita was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Andrea (Dupre) LaPlante of Dracut; four grandchildren, Jennifer Stuart and her husband Greg of Chelmsford, Cheryl Dubois and her husband Chris of Dracut, Catherine Abreu and her husband George of Norwich, CT and Michelle LaPlante of Dracut; nine great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Amber, Quintin, Joshua, Casey, Benjamin, Saydee, Madalyn and Khalan; also several nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her son, Robert R. LaPlante and her siblings, Raymond Sevigny and Theresa Clermont.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rita's Visitation on Monday morning from 8:30 until 10:15 AM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM in Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Church, 1340 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
