Dracut – Rita T. (Rocheleau) Hamel, widow of Ernest J. Hamel, died Wednesday May 4, 2011 at her Dracut residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 93.
She was born in Lowell on January 29, 1918 a daughter of the late John and Alma (Levasseur) Rocheleau.
Rita was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church.
She enjoyed travel and crossword puzzles, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Therese S. Johnson of Nashua, NH, Dolores R. Comtois and her husband Normand of Dracut, Denise C. Costin and her husband Martin of Lowell, Jeannine C. Townsend-Wiegmann of Chester, NH; nine grandchildren, Eric Johnson and his wife Kerry of Dracut, Jamie Johnson and his wife Gina of Andover, Michelle Johnson of Malden, Danielle Blades and her husband Shawn of Lowell, Marc Comtois and his partner Debbie of Pelham, NH, Roger Proulx, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Aimee Bettencourt and her husband Paul of Dracut, Melissa LeBlanc and her husband Jonathan of Lowell, Jessica Wiegmann and her partner Corey of Manchester, NH; three step grandchildren, Courtney Dixon and her husband Anthony of Lowell, Caitlin Costin of Malden, Brooke Carter of Nashua, NH; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister Simone Laffey of Lowell; two brothers and sisters in law, Gerard and Lorraine Rocheleau of Manchester, NH, Maurice and Mary Rocheleau of VA.; a former son in law, Roger Proulx of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews. She was the great grandmother of the late Alexander Bettencourt and also the sister of the late Raymond Rochleau.
