Rita E. (Mondazzi) Brown, a resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell passed away on Monday May 4, 2015 with her family by her side. She was 81.
Rita was born in Lowell on August 1, 1933 a daughter of the late Michael and Angelina (DeRocco) Mondazzi. She was a lifelong resident of Lowell.
Rita was the widow of John J. Brown, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2005.
Rita was a colorful personality who loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed her home and all of the activity there, especially during the holidays when after dinner her dining table turned into a poker table and the card games ensued.
Rita loved old movies, ballroom dancing with John, and visiting Atlantic City and Foxwoods Resort.
She was an avid Boston sports fan, but a Red Sox fanatic. Sports Radio WEEI was the only station on her radio, and her love of the Red Sox was highlighted by a visit to the 1986 World Series with her son Bruce.
Survivors include her nine children and their spouses; Patricia and Ron Stuart of Chelmsford, Joelyn and Timothy Georges of Dracut, Kevin and Janet Brown of Lowell, Ken Brown of Boston, James and Susan Brown of Rindge, NH, Cheryl and Michael Staid of Essex, Bruce and Karen Brown of Chelmsford, Kelley and Rob Bragel of Billerica, David and Renee Brown of Dracut; twenty grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Jason, Timmy, Christopher, Matthew, Erin, Bruce, Lauren, John, Michael, Alicia, Lynn, Elizabeth, Catherine, Jack, Dylan, Angelina, Trevor, Kayla; one great grandson, Luke; a sister Rose Lessard of Pelham, NH; sister in law and best friend Harriet Mondazzi of Tyngsboro; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late, Mary, Viola, Joseph, Albert, Hilda, and Del.
